WHAT A GOD WE SERVE* ❗️

*In faithfulness You have afflicted me* ‼️ *Your word is my comfort in my affliction* ‼️

💥 *Before I was afflicted I went astray* , but now I obey your word (119:67)

💥 *It was good for me to be afflicted* so that I might learn your decrees (119:71)

💥 Remember the word to Your servant, upon which You have caused me to hope. This is my comfort in my affliction (119:49,50)

💥 I know, Lord, that your laws are righteous, and that *in faithfulness you have afflicted me* (119:75)

*In all their affliction He was afflicted* ‼️ (Is 63:9)

 *In this longest chapter in the Bible (Ps.119), we find the ‘Lord’ and ‘Word’ occurring in all 176 verses. What better proof that the Lord and His Word are inseparably linked!*

What better proof that the Lord and His Word are inseparably linked!* In our day there is too much emphasis upon programs and methods and ceremonies and church activities. Our emphasis should be on the Word of God, because that is the only thing He has promised to bless. *He has never promised to bless me or my ministry or any other ministry, but He has promised to bless His Word.*

📖Ps.118:7-8- This psalm praises the Lord for his unending love for his people. It may have been the last words sung by Jesus and his disciples before he went to the Garden of Gethsemane, where he was arrested and led to his death (cf. Mt 26:30; Mk 14:26). *The psalmist says that it is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man. Let us not put our confidence in men, they will let us down. Let us put our trust in the Lord.*

⛹️‍♂️ *Application* : Ps.119:11- *Many people believe that this verse only means that Scripture should be memorized.* Memorizing God’s Word is a wonderful thing, but some of the meanest little brats we have seen in Sunday school were the ones who could stand up and quote one hundred verses of Scripture. *When the psalmist wrote, “Thy word have I hid in mine heart,” he surely would have meant, “I obey it.” That is the important thing. It is a wonderful thing to be able to stand up and by rote recite verse after verse—we are not criticizing that—but we also need to obey the Word. That is what the psalmist means by hiding it in your heart.*

😯Ps.119:69-70- Critics of the Bible need to go on a diet, or they may die of heart trouble. *We need to stay close to the Word of God. It is marvellous for heart trouble!*

*Psalm 118 is a hymn of thanksgiving for deliverance from enemies.* It could be a Davidic king leading the nation in a liturgy of thanksgiving for deliverance from their enemies. (2 Chronicles 20:27,28). It could be Israel celebrating - probably at the Feast of Tabernacle - her deliverance from Egypt and victory over the Canaanites.

*A. WHAT MY ENEMIES DID?*

1. *They surrounded me on every side.*(118:10, 11)

2. *They swarmed around me like bees*(118:12)

3. *I was pushed back and about to fall.*(118:13)

*B. WHAT I DID WHEN SURROUNDED BY ENEMIES?*

1. *I cried (prayed) to the LORD.*(Psa.118;5)

*C.* *HOW GOD ANSWERED MY PRAYER?*

1. *God loved me with enduring love.* (Psa.118:1,2,3,4)

4. *God removed my fears.*(118:6) *"What can man do to me"?* When God is with us, they can do nothing. When God is with us, no need for fear.

8 *God helped me to defeat my enemies. (I cut them off)*(118:10,11,12)

☄️ *“பூமியிலே நான் பரதேசி; உமது கற்பனைகளை எனக்கு மறையாதேயும்."* (சங்கீதம் 119:19).

🔸 119-ஆம் சங்கீதம் தேவனையும் அவருடைய எழுதப்பட்ட வார்த்தையையும் மகிமைப்படுத்தும் ஒரு சங்கீதம். ஏறக்குறைய ஒவ்வொரு வசனத்திலும் தேவனுடைய வார்த்தையைப் பற்றிய ஏராளமான குறிப்புகள் இதில் உள்ளன. *பூமி தன்னுடைய குடியிருப்பு அல்ல* (சங்கீதம் 119:19) என்பதையும் தனது உண்மையான தாயகத்துடன் தொடர்பில் இருக்க வேண்டும் என்பதையும் சங்கீதக்காரன் புரிந்துகொள்கிறான். எனவே, தேவனுடைய கற்பனைகளை அறிந்துகொண்டு பின்பற்றத் தீர்மானிக்கிறான்.

🔸 இயேசு தெளிவாகக் குறிப்பிட்டுள்ளார்: *"என் ராஜ்யம் இவ்வுலகத்திற்குரியதல்ல."* (யோவான் 18:36). விசுவாசிகளுக்கு பவுலின் அறிவுரை: *"நம்முடைய குடியிருப்போ பரலோகத்திலிருக்கிறது, அங்கேயிருந்து கர்த்தராயிருக்கிற இயேசுகிறிஸ்து என்னும் இரட்சகர் வர எதிர்பார்த்துக்கொண்டிருக்கிறோம்."* (பிலிப்பியர் 3:20).

🔸 *பட்சபாதமில்லாமல் அவனவனுடைய கிரியைகளின்படி நியாயந்தீர்க்கிறவரை நீங்கள் பிதாவாகத் தொழுதுகொண்டுவருகிறபடியால், இங்கே பரதேசிகளாய்ச் சஞ்சரிக்குமளவும் பயத்துடனே நடந்துகொள்ளுங்கள்* (1பேதுரு 1:17) என்று விசுவாசிகளுக்கு அப்போஸ்தலன் பேதுரு அறிவுறுத்தினான். நாம் உலகத்தில் வாழ்ந்தாலும், நாம் உலகத்தைச் சார்ந்தவர்களாக இருக்கக்கூடாது.

🔸 *"பொய்வழியை என்னைவிட்டு விலக்கி, உம்முடைய வேதத்தை எனக்கு அருள்செய்யும். மெய்வழியை நான் தெரிந்து கொண்டு, உம்முடைய நியாயங்களை எனக்கு முன்பாக நிறுத்தினேன்."* (சங்கீதம் 119:29-30) என்று சங்கீதக்காரன் ஜெபிக்கிறான்.

🔸 இரண்டு வழிகள் நம் முன் உள்ளன: *மெய்வழி மற்றும் பொய்வழி.* மெய்வழியைத் தெரிந்துகொள்ள, நாம் தேவனுடைய வார்த்தையை அறிந்திருக்க வேண்டும். தேவன் நமக்காகத் திட்டமிட்டுள்ள நித்திய வாழ்க்கையைப் புரிந்துகொள்ள இது நமக்கு உதவும். அப்போதுதான் நாம் பூமியில் பரதேசிகள் என்று அறிவிக்க முடியும். *தேவனுடைய நியாயங்களை நமக்கு முன்பாக நிறுத்தும்போது, கர்த்தராகிய இயேசு கிறிஸ்து மீது வைத்திருக்கும் விசுவாசத்தின் மூலம் நித்திய ஜீவனைப் பெறுவது எவ்வளவு பாக்கியம் என்பதை நாம் புரிந்து கொள்ளமுடியும்.*

🔹 *பரலோகத்திலிருக்கிற நம்முடைய குடியிருப்புக்காக நாம் ஆவலுடன் காத்திருக்கிறோமா?*

✅ நாம் கற்றுக் கொள்ளும் *பாடங்கள்*:

1️⃣ *நாம் இவ்வுலகைச் சார்ந்தவர்கள் அல்ல; பரலோகத்திலிருக்கிற நம்முடைய குடியிருப்புக்காக நாம் ஆவலுடன் காத்திருக்கிறோம்.*

2️⃣ *நாம் உலகத்தில் வாழ்ந்தாலும், நாம் உலகத்தைச் சார்ந்தவர்களாக இருக்கக்கூடாது.*

3️⃣ *தேவனுடைய நியாயங்களை நமக்கு முன்பாக நிறுத்தும்போது, கர்த்தராகிய இயேசு கிறிஸ்து மீது வைத்திருக்கும் விசுவாசத்தின் மூலம் நித்திய ஜீவனைப் பெறுவது எவ்வளவு பாக்கியம் என்பதை நாம் புரிந்து கொள்ளமுடியும்.*

சங்கீதம் 119: 19. *பூமியிலே நான் பரதேசி. உமது கற்பனைகளை எனக்கு மறையாதேயும்.*

1. ஆம், இந்த உலகம் நம் சொந்த தேசம் அல்ல. நாம் இன்னொரு தேசத்திற்கு சொந்தகாரர். அப்படியானால் இந்த உலகில் நாம் நிரந்தரமாக வாழ முடியாது. ஆனால் இந்த உலகிலே வாழும் கொஞ்ச நாட்களிலே, நம் நித்திய வீட்டிற்கு, நாட்டிற்கு அந்த பரலோக இராஜ்யத்திற்கு செல்ல நம்மை ஆயத்த படுத்த வேண்டும். இதை அறிந்த சங்கீதக்காரன் *பூமியிலே நான் பரதேசி. ஆகவே உமது கற்பனைகளை எனக்கு மறையாதேயும்* என ஜெபிக்கிறார்.

ஆனால் இன்று அநேகர் இதை அறியாத படி, உலகத்திற்காகவே வாழ்ந்து கொண்டிருக்கிறார்கள். மரணம் எப்போது நம்மை சந்திக்கும் அல்லது கர்த்தரின் வருகை எப்போதிருக்கும் என்று நாம் அறியோம். ஆகவே கர்த்தருடைய கற்பனைகளை அறிந்து, அவற்றிற்கு கீழ்ப்படிவோம்.

2. இதை அறிந்த தாவீது *நாங்கள் அரதேசிகளும், பரதேசகளுமாயிருக்கிறோம். எங்கள் நாட்கள் நிழலை போல இருக்கிறது* என்கிறார். 1 நாளாகமம் 29: 15.

*நான் பரதேசியாய் தங்கும் வீட்டில் உமது பிரமாணங்கள் என் கீதங்களாயின*. சங்கீதம் 119:54..ஆம் கர்த்தருடைய கற்பனைகள், பிரமாணங்கள், வார்த்தைகளே நம் ஜீவனாயிருக்கட்டும்.

3. *விசுவாசத்தினாலே ஆபிரகாம் பரதேசியை போல சஞ்சரித்து, கூடாரங்களில் குடியிருந்தார். பூமியிலே தங்களை அந்நியர்கள், பரதேசிகள் என அறிக்கையிட்டு விசுவாசத்தோடு மரித்தார்கள்*. எபிரேயர் 11: 9, 13. இதை அறிந்த பேதுரு தன் நிருபத்தை எழுதும் போது, *தெரிந்து கொள்ளப்பட்ட பரதேசிகளுக்கு* என எழுதுகிறார். 1பேதுரு 1: 2.

ஆம், இந்த மாயையான நிலையற்ற உலகிலே, நம் நித்திய தேசமாம் பரலோக இராஜ்யம் சென்று சேர இயேசுவை, அவர் வார்த்தைகளை பின்பற்றி நம்மையும், நம் குடும்பத்தையும் ஆயத்தப் படுத்துவோம். ஆம், *பூமியிலே நாம் பரதேசிகள்*. ஆமென். அல்லேலூயா.

PSALM 118:1-14.

GOD IS OUR STRENGTH, SONG AND SALVATION.

Psalm 118 does not name an author, but there is reason to believe that it was King David, the sweet Psalmist of Israel, with its grand style and majestic subject.

It is also Lord Jesus Christ's Psalm, as it is pre eminently the triumphant song of Christ, the ideal Servant, the perfect Priest and exemplary Leader of His people.

V1-4; Oh, give thanks to the Lord,

For He is good!

Because His mercy endures forever.

Let Israel say,

"His mercy endures forever."

Let the house of Aaron say,

"His mercy endures forever."

Let those who fear the Lord say,

"His mercy endures forever."

Psalm 118 opens with an emphatic call that God's goodness is so great that it deserves praise and thanks.

The Psalm begins and ends with the declaration,

'For His mercy endures forever.'

It is a statement of faith, gratitude for God's loyal covenant and His loving kindness.

Psalm 118 is the last of the six Egyptian Hallel Psalms, sung in Lord Jesus Christ's day as part of the Passover ritual.

When Matthew 26:30 and Mark 14:26 tell us that Lord Jesus sang a hymn with His disciples at the Last Supper, it refers to these Hallel Psalms.

As Lord Jesus sang the words,

"For His mercy endures forever",

He did it with the complete knowledge that the endurance of God's mercy would be tested to the utmost, in the work to come, the next day at the cross.

The Psalmist invited the people of Israel, the priests of the house of Aaron and even gentiles who feared and honoured God to join in the emphatic chorus,

'His mercy endures forever.'

The Psalmist testifies that the Lord answered his cry of distress and set him in a secure, broad place where he could stand confidently.

The Psalmist knew from experience that man and even princes could not help the way God can;

He could trust God, because it was safer and wiser to do so.

The Psalmist knew what it was to be trapped by enemies who swarmed like bees;

He understood the power and strength of God who could rescue him out of his troubles.

V14; The Lord is my strength and song,

And He has become my salvation.

When the Lord is our STRENGTH;

It means that He is our refuge and resource.

We look to Him for our daily needs and for courage to face each new day.

When the Lord is our SONG, it means that He is our joy and our happiness.

We find the purpose for our lives only in Him.

When the Lord is our SALVATION;

It means that we put our trust in Him;

As He is our rest, rescue and deliverance at all times.

This ancient hymn was sung by Moses in Exodus15 on the shores of the Red Sea.

It was sung by the restored exiles in Jerusalem.

It will be sung by tried and trustful people of every age, as calm victors, who raise again and again, the Song of Moses and the Song of the Lamb.

✝️ Psalms 119:1-72✝️

*Teach me, Lord*, the way of your decrees, that I may follow it to the end. Psalm 119:33.

🔹The psalmist is asking the Lord to teach him the way to follow His decrees. He wanted to keep them to the end of his life! What a blessed revelation for anyone who wants to please God. *We need to be taught by the Lord*. The psalmist did not trust in his own understanding to keep God’s law. He *asked for understanding* from God. He was humble to acknowledge that he lacked understanding!

🔹He had hidden God’s word in his heart and yet he asked God’s help to *turn his heart towards* His statutes. He wanted God to take over the steering wheel of his heart! Again, he asked God to *turn his heart away* from selfish gain and worthless things and to *direct Him* in the path of His commands! 119: 33-37.

🔹There was a time when the psalmist had *gone astray without knowledge*. It brought him much affliction. Blows and wounds scrub away evil, and beatings purge the inmost being. Pro 20:18. Then he understood that the affliction was good because it opened his eyes to his own follies of his own understandings. It steered him to learn God’s decrees. 119: 67,71. So he *asks God to teach him knowledge and good judgement*. It was now precious to him than thousand pieces of silver and gold. 66,72. People can even *perish due to lack of knowledge*.

🔹Teachability is the first and last quality needed for a student of the word God. He has to ask God to teach him. As the psalmist asks God again and again like a little child to teach him, 33,64,66, may we ask the Lord to teach us everyday.

Like the man of God who came from Judah to Bethel to be taken out by his own folly, I realised folly is a sin that defiles oneself. Mark 7:22. I realised my worldly degrees and worldly knowledge can only make me a fool. I realised my worldly accolades meant nothing. How easily are we taken away by human wisdom and suggestions! Are we ready to open our hearts and thoughts to Jesus to be directed by Him 24/7?

🔷“The Lord knows that the thoughts of the wise are futile.” Do not deceive yourselves. If any of you think you are wise by the standards of this age, you should become “fools” so that you may become wise. 1 Cor 3:18,20. Ask! And it shall be given!
